I Link You; I Link You Not
Cindy Lynn was badgering me a week or so ago--when was I going to put her link on my blog? Well, as it turns out, links are something (else) I can't figure out. Not how to do them. Fortunately for me blogger makes that easy enough. But who's to do. That's the tough question.
It's like having a party at your house and thinking that you've invited everyone, and having someone mention the next day that they would have loved coming to your party. What if I don't put someone's link on my blog and they feel bad about it? Or is this even something people notice or care about? I've seen some blogs that have a virtual roll call of everyone in a given group on them, while other blogs have only a couple.
As you can probably tell, I am truly baffled...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to try to link to everyone who linked to me, but then that list got enormous and now I can't, so I don't link to "journal" blogs anymore unless someone feels really hurt.
ReplyDeleteI went through this same question - and, ultimately, my 'people-pleaser' side won out. Thankfully, Blogger has an option to only show a few links at any given time (I have it set to 5 blogs per group), so my list doesn't look ridiculously long. Plus, I like to have them all there so I can hit them all from one location. But, it's a tough call... I understand!
ReplyDeleteI link to to those blogs that I actually read. Now it helps that I've got three blogs I'm working off....so I link the photo blogs I'm looking at on my PAD. I link the video blogs I'm looking at on my VOTW. And then I link the blogs I'm reading on Teaching Sean. But I just use it as a general rule that I link to those that I am constantly reading.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few blogs that I randomly read, but I don't link to those.
(I'd link to yours but you know my other rule about that.)
Okay.. how bout you just link to people you're related to. ;)
ReplyDeleteLike me!
How about linking to the people you're not reated to because you already talk about those you are related to so much that there are plenty of in text links to them.
ReplyDeleteWell Sean, there would be plenty of in text links to them--but I can never remember how to do those links, so I always have to ask again, so I don't do them too often!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I remember your rule.
Lindsay--I didn't know you could limit what shows. That helps a ton, I think!
I won't be too sad if you don't link me... in case I ever crossed your mind;)
ReplyDeleteWell here's the thing--just because I don't link to someone's blog doesn't mean I don't read it, right? I just keep all of my blog addresses in a folder on a toolbar & get to them that way. So it's not like I'm not visiting--just that I didn't want a never ending list of other blogs on the side of mine!
ReplyDeleteI guess it is one good thing about being the "older" generation--not so many of our friends our age have blogs to worry about! ;)
If you're going to be reading more than 3 blogs on a daily basis, you might consider using "google reader" which is part of your google account and allows you to get "feeds" from all your blogs into one place. You just log into Reader and every blog is there ready and waiting to be read. You can even get the "feeds" off the comments that are said on Cindy's blog. If you need help setting it up - I'm sure Cindy or Mahon or I could help you.
