Squirrel Sadness

In March we finally had our roof replaced.  For several years we’ve put it off, hoping that the rains wouldn’t be too bad and that we wouldn’t get too many more water spots on the inside ceilings.  But this year the right stars aligned and we had the job done.

March 2010 193 (It’s amazing how much one contractor and his 10 man crew can get done in a day!)

The workers found two holes in the board under the shingles—a big one near the chimney, and one in between the dormer windows.  They fixed the holes without even missing a beat.

In the last couple of weeks there have been a few days I’ve gone into the laundry room first thing in the morning.  Each time I’ve noticed something outside the window, and each time there’s been a squirrel chewing on the windowsill.  From the looks of it, this chewing has been going on for some time.

May 2010 624 The laundry room window is one of the dormer windows—just a few feet from where one of the holes in the roof was.  So I can’t help but wonder—did the squirrel leave something—or somesquirrel—up there in my attic and now his entry is blocked?  Is he trying to chew his way in through the windowsill?

I’m hoping it was just his good stash of acorns…
