They're Here! They're Here!

I am sure you will all be relieved to know that this afternoon there are caterpillars in our yard. Not just one, but 4. Well, they were in the yard. Now they are happily living the caterpillar high life in brand new digs on the screened in porch.

Jared calls his caterpillar Roadrunner because he moves so quickly.

Jenna calls her caterpillar Ole'Blue because it seems to be old.

And Rachel, the lucky girl with two caterpillars, calls them Sicko and Twitch.

Don't you just love it that there are obvious gender differences in home decor decisions by age 8.5?

  1. Abby had a caterpillar once. It was a tobacco hornworm (we found it on our tomato plant--I can explain that some time if you want). She named it Eric. Unfortunately, Eric didn't survive the crystalis stage. She still talks about him.

  2. We played with the caterpillars today, too! They really are pretty fun... though, I find myself stressing every time Carson goes to pick one up - - - I REALLY don't like the idea of that poor caterpillar being squished to death by a pair of uncoordinated hands!

  3. LOL - "Sicko and Twitch?"

Okay, I guess those WERE the kind of caterpillars I played with. I just didn't like the super fuzzy ones.

Lindsay - last year during caterpillar season there was this caterpillar that briefly lived with us. The girls called him "Squishy." When I asked why they called him "Squishy," they explained that it was cause they accidentally squeezed him too hard and he had blood coming out.

(Like I said... he wasn't there too long!)

  4. And I love that the child with the prettiest decor named her caterpillars "sicko" and "twitch"!!! That is too funny! We have one named "cata" and one named "pillar". Cata was looking a little dessicated this morning so he will be reintroduced to the wild this afternoon, after his lucky replacement is found:).

  5. My other favorite caterpillar destruction story (that my mom says I should tell) is when Tami and Isaac Mangrum came over last year during caterpillar season. Isaac would pick up the caterpillars off the porch and pulling them in half, and then take them over to his mom in confusion and say, "It broke!!!" Over and over again.

  6. Amy--aren't tobacco hornworms really nasty looking? I thought I saw one once and it totally grossed me out...

Lindsay, sounds like you & Tami should trade horror stories! ;)

Katie--caterpillar rotation! Now there's an idea!
