Geographic Puzzler

The other day I read an article on unemployment, talking about an end of year report issued by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. One of the points the article made was that North Dakota has the lowest unemployment rate in the US, at only 4.4%.

I'm sure there's a punch line there, somewhere...

  1. It's because nobody wants to live there!!!

  2. Being an economist's wife, that is really interesting...I'll have to ask him what he thinks. I'm guessing it's because there's not a lot holding people there if they lose their job, other than family, maybe. But it's not like you're there for the weather, or the proximity to the beach right? So maybe people just leave when they become unemployed?

  3. My sister is stationed there. It is cold, flat and boring.. or so she says. Maybe you only live there because you have to so there are no demands or competition for jobs. She wouldn't be there if she could leave. LOL

  4. Yeah. Stats don't always tell the whole story.
