Oops!

Last year the hydrangea bushes in my backyard bloomed spectacularly.  They made a 5 foot tall hedge just covered in flowers.  And when they were done blooming I thought it would be a good idea to prune everything down, so that this year they wouldn’t be quite so tall.

The pruning shears made my hands sore though, so I only did the bushes on one side of the yard.

Oops.  Here are my bushes this year.

(Please ignore all of Josh’s lacrosse targets.  The hydrangea bushes are on the far right and far left of the picture.)

Do you see that?  There is NO height difference between the pruned and unpruned plants—they are the same height this year.

But one of them is missing the flowers!

Note to self: next time do a little research before going crazy with the pruning shears!  Because we want these bushes to look like this!

PS—in case you’re wondering what happened to the lattice, I have one word for you.  Lacrosse.  And it seems pointless to repair it when we want lacrosse to keep happening for the next couple of years!
