1000: A daunting number

I’ve been reading (another) new book recently called “One Thousand Gifts: a Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are.” The gist of the lovely though difficult to read story is that it is gratitude that helps us transcend the trials and frustrations of mortality.  At some point in the story the author accepts the challenge to record 1000 things that she is grateful for.  I felt lead to read this book in the first place, and as I started to see the connection she was pointing to between gratitude and joy I felt that I, too, needed a serious gratitude project.  (Living fully right where you are—what could be a more perfect challenge for me??) While I was in Utah with my sisters I bought a small journal so that when I came home I would be ready to start making my list.

And so I have.

But can I tell you—I see now in a new way that 1000 is a BIG NUMBER!!  It will be more of a challenge than I realized to keep seeing the points of beauty in my life.  And hopefully it will train my brain to see more clearly how blessed I really am.

Now if I could just remember more easily to write in it…
