In Memoriam

The main library in Hillsboro is relatively new; a beautiful two story brick building with big windows that look out over rolling greenspace and a pond.  I tend not to spend much time in the library—I do most of my “looking” online, request books, then run in and check them out when they come.

The other day, though, as I was walking out I was moving a bit more slowly than normal and I noticed something.

On the walkway in front of the front doors are several areas of brick with printing on them.  I knew immediately what this was—a fund-raising effort of some sort when the library was built.  I stopped and read some of the inscriptions.

I didn’t have my purse cam with me (love the keychain library card) and so I pulled out my phone to take some pictures.

And then I noticed this one.

And I thought, remembering a recent moment in our house, that if my kids were ever to buy me a brick at the library in my memory, it would probably say:

in memory of
our mom
who couldn’t
go to the bathroom
without a book.

  1. LOL!!!!!! Mahon is constantly making fun of me for this. He has lately been trying to persuade me that I am missing out on important opportunities for contemplation and meditation while doing my business, LOL! I told him that I make sure I have contemplation and meditation in my life... but the bathroom is a place for reading!
