I'm Thinking About:

February 24th

We may on occasion find ourselves in uncomfortable situations where we differ in doctrine with our acquaintances, friends, and family members. But the doctrine can never be used to justify treating others with anything less than respect and dignity. We can stand firm in our beliefs and have a loving relationship with those who hold differing opinions. It is never an either-or choice. We love and live our doctrine, and we love those who do not live it. We need not create false dichotomies. The late Elder Marvin J. Ashton shared this insight from an inspired leader: “The best and most clear indicator that we are progressing spiritually and coming unto Christ is the way we treat other people.

Controversial FHE topics

For over a year now I’ve had a strong feeling that we needed to teach our children about these controversial church issues that so often leave people feeling like the church must be false. “Vaccinate” them so that when they encounter these ideas on their own they won’t be shocked/frightened/repulsed/surprised. They will still get to make their own decisions about how they feel, obviously. But they’ll be able to do it on their own time and having both sides of information.

WOW!!! These sound awesome. Will you tell me about them after you have them??? BTW, on the trials point - recently a friend said something to me on Facebook that I've been thinking of ever since. She said that she doesn't believe when people say "the Lord never gives more than you can bear," because she thinks that He intentionally DOES give us more than we can bear so that we will need to turn for help to those around us and to Him. I really like that idea and it's changed the way I think about that issue completely.
