I am taking pictures down in my bedroom. Some are just set aside to be repurposed throughout the house when my design-savvy friends finish the staging in a couple of weeks. Some, however, are set carefully in the closet to wait for the movers.
I’ve noticed something about my home over the last few week; that I decorate mostly with pictures. Pictures of us—who we are, who we’ve been, and who we love.
My decorating style won’t sell a house, prospective buyers are distracted by seeing too many pictures of the occupants, and need instead to see pleasant artwork or bare walls. I’ve picked up a few pictures over the last few weeks and I’m sure they’ll be great for staging.
But I’m pretty sure that when we get to Oregon and own some new walls these pictures are coming out again. Maybe they’ll be in new places or with new groupings. Maybe I’ll be really wild and buy new frames. But I’ll bet that if you come to see us (and you really should), you’ll see that our location may change, but the things that matter most will stay the same…
I have been thinking about that as I've been putting pics up on my walls... as much as I'd love to be a person with interesting and beautiful art all over, for the most part, our wall decorations are pictures of people and memories!
ReplyDeleteThis is how my house is too. I know it won't win a prize but in my heart I love it. I love seeing the pictures of the kids as they have grown. I have a lot more to go up once we paint.
