It’s been clear for some time that Jenna has a flair for design. She has her own ideas about clothes and hair, and now even glasses.
Last year she got a little fashion design kit for Christmas. It had all sorts of patterned papers, stencils for different clothes, and hangers to “hang” her finished creations on. She had a great time with it. Her favorites are living here right now.
This year for Christmas she got a new fashion design kit—this one with a real (though very small) dressmaker’s dummy. She’s already decorated the dress that came in the kit, designed and made one dress, and has a second dress designed and is just waiting for me to have time to help her with it.
Now I know you’re thinking well duh, she’s my daughter. And it’s true, she is. But—I’m not a designer. I sew, and usually I do it well. I copy ideas well. I have pretty good judgement usually. But a designer? That, I am not. Which makes it so much fun for me to watch Jenna!
It really is kind of fun to watch designers and wonder what how in the world they come up with that stuff. My youngest sister has the most interesting ideas - - - and as she's gotten older they're getting more and more refined into a specific 'Amber style'. She's so talented and is often helping with costume wardrobes for her theater... It's been so enlightening and exciting to watch her. I'm sure you'll experience a similar thing with Jenna... who knows? maybe she'll grow up to be a fashion designer.
