I'm Thinking About:

We may on occasion find ourselves in uncomfortable situations where we differ in doctrine with our acquaintances, friends, and family members. But the doctrine can never be used to justify treating others with anything less than respect and dignity. We can stand firm in our beliefs and have a loving relationship with those who hold differing opinions. It is never an either-or choice. We love and live our doctrine, and we love those who do not live it. We need not create false dichotomies. The late Elder Marvin J. Ashton shared this insight from an inspired leader: “The best and most clear indicator that we are progressing spiritually and coming unto Christ is the way we treat other people.

Organic Dessert

Last night we were invited to dinner with several other families. Seminary graduation was happening at the same time, so we showed up just in time for dessert. Fortunately we didn’t miss the highlight of the evening.

Which was when Eric ate a cricket.

Now let me back up for a minute. For those of you not lucky enough to know our friend Eric, he is a one of a kind guy. He is a back to the basics maverick who likes to make his own hot chocolate (from the cacao plant), ride a single speed bike (I think that’s what it’s called—it doesn’t have any gears to make things easier) and runs marathons barefoot.

And apparently, eats crickets.

One of the kids had found a cricket on the lawn, and one of the other men bet Eric $10 he wouldn’t eat it.

He lost.

And, thanks to the purse cam, I have proof.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

PS—If you’re lucky Katie or Lindsay will post the video of the whole experience. And you will get to hear me laughing like a hyena in the background. Cause I was.

No, Amy--it was a regular "garden" variety cricket. I'd have loved to see if he would eat a camel cricket!!

And I am not sure I would do it even for $100. I'd have to want that $100 reallllly bad!
